A Decade of Return.
Hakuba is not a single journey but a mountain revisited across years and seasons. Each return records how snow, visibility, water, terrain and human movement alter the same alpine environment.
02 — Environmental State
Winter Pressure
Winter compresses distance and time. Wind, snow and whiteout narrow the visible route, making pace and judgment part of the observation.
Field Observation
Conditions decide the pace. The work begins by waiting long enough for the mountain to reveal how it is changing.
03 — 2024
A Summer of Restricted Visibility
During the 2024 visit, severe weather kept the journey at the hut for two days and the planned route was shortened. The photographs trace the conditions around that interruption: wet ground, low cloud, brief openings and changing possibilities of movement.
04 — 2026
A Summer of Open Observation
Returning in summer, visibility remained broad enough for sustained movement and observation. Residual snow, meltwater, low cloud and dawn light describe an open—though never static—alpine state.

Conditions change. Observation continues.
The archive grows not by repeating the same view, but by observing how the mountain refuses to remain the same.
